Books made into movies

Do you read books first that have been made into movies? I like to sometimes but often times I find that the book is better. Has anyone else ever experienced this before?

I have mixed feelings on this. Books in general have more detail and better character development. But on the other hand, movies allow for that world to come alive in ways we could only see with our imaginations. Are the lord of the rings books good? Yes! They are great. But the movies brought my favorite fictional world to life.
