I am only an amateur in chess, but I can not let go of the awful feeling I get when I get comprehensively beaten by a colleague in chess in less than 10 minutes. What books, videos or practices do you propose to improve my Chess skills?

I think your best bet would be to play online against others and slowly improve.

Well just play, like every other sport, play, practice and read about it a lot. That's the key.
