Do rats make good pets?

I always wanted to own one but I was worried that they would smell, be messy, bite, or escape and make a mess in my house. Anyone know if they make good pets or not?

I have a friend who has many pet rats. Him and his whole family seem to enjoy their company quite a bit.

I am not a huge fan of rats. I would suppose that they would make decent pets are they do like people.

I don't think rats can make good pets. If anything, you will have to take care of them like all the time. Not to mention that they are not all cute like hamsters or other cute creatures.

I would rather get a guinea pig, or a hamster or a rabbit rather than rise a rat. Also, women are not at all fond of rate. I do admit one thing though, they are kinda cute but they are not worth keeping as pets. They are also fast. So, you will have to be extra careful with them while cleaning their cages and such.

I think they are good pets, small and somewhat easy to take care of. It all depends on your taste after all, they can't mess up the house too bad so yeah, if you really want it just get it and see how it is.

Ewww lol. I know people do have rats as pets but I just don't get it. Out of all the house pets you could have why rats? It seems like it would be difficult to grow any real attachment to them.
